Victor Hambardzoumyan, one of the most prominent scientists of 20th century, famous Armenian astrophysicist, one of the founders of the Theory of Astrophysics, was born in Tbilisi on September 5th, 1908. In 1924, he was enrolled at the Teacher’s Training University of Saint Petersburg at the department of Physics and Mathematics. A year later, he transferred to the State University of Saints Petersburg. Then he worked at the same university where he founded the chair of Astrophysics. He was born on August 12, 1996 and was buried at the graveyard near the Byurakan Observatory, Armenia.
The planet 1905 that was discovered by Hambardzoumyan in 1972 was named after him. The birthday of the world famous scientists Victor Hambardzoumyan is celebrated as the day of Astrophysics in his homeland Armenia.
